Welcome to our website

The European Flame is a Grundtvig project that aims to help language teachers who want to coach their students in learning and practising vocabulary on their own.

The project name is inspired by the olympic flame: the participating countries pass on the torch of their knowledge and experience to each other. The result of this joint effort is a digital training for teachers. If you are a teacher and you want to help your learners learn words autonomously, go to the page Get Started to find answers to the following questions:

- What is autonomous vocabulary learning and why is it important?
- How do I find out what my students need to learn?
- What is the best method of learning for my individual students?
- Where can I find activities and tools that fit their needs?
- What can I do to motivate my students to keep up the good work?

The page Tools and Activities provides a survey of digital and non-digital tools or activities for autonomous vocabulary learning. We collected and screened them using the screening tools we designed during the project. The sceening provides information both on practical factors and quality criteria. Based on these criteria, you will be able to decide if a certain actvity or tool is appropriate for your student. For a full understanding of the screening, it’s a good idea to go through the digital training first.

On the page The European Flame you can read more about the Flame idea behind the project. You will also find links to similar projects on autonomous learning.

All information is written in the project language (English) and then translated into the language of the participating countries. Click on the language of your choice below to continue reading in
